  • 4.0 out of 5 stars from Jessica -- A great read! : I thoroughly enjoyed Bill Turner's The Harlan Renaissance! I just couldnt put it down. It was interesting to hear his perspective on trendy words such as "Affralachian", and his criticism of other author's work inspired by their time (or time near) Appalachia. I felt he was a bit too critical at times, but I sympathize; no one likes an imposter. I had not considered the migratory patterns of black families during the Great Migration. I am interested to learn more about black communities there, past and present. Also I wonder where the displaced workers moved to following the collapse of the coal industry. I hope his voice inspires more people to tell their stories. ( Reviewed in the United States on October 4, 2021 )
