:- 5.0 out of 5 stars from John C. -- CLASSIC!!! : I read a lot of books, primarily fiction, horror, vampires, supernatural and paranormal in subject. Once every 6 or 7 books, I'll read something else, crime, dramatic, thriller, etc., I'm blessed to have the time to read 3-4 a week. I can't say enough about this fictional horror book. Being an avid reader, you find that there isn't always quality in quantity. However, in this case, I was definitely left wanting more. ( Reviewed in the United States on March 29, 2017 )

For starters, I’d rather buy hardcover books and used ones, as long as it’s in very good + condition, rather than new paperback books if I can afford to. This one is in great condition. Erich Kaempffer is a member of the SS and has just been promoted to become Commandant of Ploiesti – a new concentration camp in Romania, which is set to rival Auschwitz. Kaempffer is a dedicated man, who delights in murder and violence and also hopes to make himself a personal fortune. However, before he can set off to his new career, he is asked to visit a small army detachment, stationed in the Alps, shortly north of Ploiesti. There have been frantic messages from their commanding officer, Captain Klaus Woermann, saying that they have suffered losses and asking permission to relocate. (No spoilers). : If I could give this book no stars at all I would have, I found the characters (both good and bad) to be boring, and the lack of action. . . well, after trying several times I couldn't get past chapter five and that was a BIG struggle, I even tried reading the paperback many years ago with similar results. - 3.0 out of 5 stars from paddythe bear -- Good starter,good middle but ............................... : The Keep sounded like it had all the ingredients that I would like in a vampire/horror story.This inc.the German army during the 2nd world war taking over a mysterious keep in Romania as a vantage point. Immediately soldiers start dyeing and the German command send an Nazi SS death squad there to help sort the problem out. It becomes clear that it might well be a super natural problem and the only person they think has the knowledge to help them is a Jewish Professor who is crippled by an arthritic type disease and is cared for by his daughter. So the SS have to enlist the help of 2 Jews whilst an unseen evil carries on ripping the throats out of the soldiers. ( Reviewed in the United Kingdom on April 7, 2013 )
